'Hairy Dan' appeared in the first issue of the Beano comic dated 30th July 1938 and appeared for 297 issues before his last appearance on 16th November 1946. The 'Hairy Dan' stories revolved inevitably around his long white beard. In the first issue of the Beano, Dan used his beard to win a sailing contest. 'Hairy Dan' was drawn by the sixteen year old artist, Basil Blackaller. 'Hairy Dan' later appeared in 'Sparky' in 1965 and his most recent appearance was in a Beano 65th Anniversary strip (2005) alongside 'Ball Boy'. |
