Ball Boy booted his way into Beano comic
number 1735 dated 18th October 1975.
Thirty years after making his first
appearance in the Beano, Ball Boy caused a media sensation when DC
Thomson, publishers of the Beano, scrapped a run of 200,000 copies due
to a strip featuring a character called Henry Thierry who was pictured
running down a street half naked.
The Beano editor Euan Kerr was concerned
that the then Arsenal footballer Thierry Henry may have been offended as
the character in the strip bore a striking resemblance to him. "We try
not to offend and there was a worry that it might have upset Thierry
Henry". |
